Scott founded Fund Raising Counsel in 1981, and now serves as Chairman Emeritus. He has directed numerous capital campaigns and trained the staff, boards of directors and primary supporters of various charitable organizations on strategic planning, annual giving, board training and organizational goal setting. He has conducted planned giving seminars throughout America and also practices law with Lewis, Hansen, where he is a member of the tax, nonprofit and business section of the firm.
Scott is frequently named to the Utah Legal Elite by Utah Business Magazine. He is a past president of the Utah Society of Fund Raisers, where he was honored as the Fund Raiser of the Year in 2002. He has served on National Advisory Council of the Western Folklife Center, and the Boards of the Utah Skeleton and Bobsled Association, and the Utah Bicycle Coalition. He is a past chair of Repertory Dance Theatre and was on the Boards of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities, the Utah Shakespearean Festival, and the Grace A. and Obert C. Tanner Planned Giving Society. Scott is a Certified Fund Raising Executive by the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.
He graduated from the University of Utah with a BS degree in Political Science and an MS in Economics. He then obtained his law degree from Pepperdine University. Scott is admitted to practice in Utah, Idaho, and Texas, as well as before the US Supreme Court.
